As of June 1st 2021, fully vaccinated students and instructors will be able to attend events at our studio without a mask. They will also be allowed to switch partners in partnered classes or socials and will not need to stay socially distanced. To receive the benefits above you must show proof of full vaccination with your vaccine card.
Below are the studio check-in protocol that all students will experience:
- Option A: You are fully vaccinated and would like to show your card as proof of vaccination. If so, please show your card to your instructor at check-in. They will confirm your name, that you have completed all the necessary shots and are through the appropriate waiting period.***You are then free to enter the studio without a mask, without social distancing and may rotate partners in our partnered classes and dances. You of course still have the option to wear a mask, social distance or stay with a partner you came with at your own discretion.
- Option B: You would prefer to keep your vaccination status private. If so, please fill out a contract tracing form, answering all the normal covid questions at check-in.You can then enter the studio but must wear a mask, stay socially distanced and stay with the partner you brought.
- Option C: You are not fully vaccinated or cannot show proof of vaccination. If so, please fill out a contract tracing form, answering all the normal covid questions at check-in.You can then enter the studio but must wear a mask, stay socially distanced and stay with the partner you brought.
***The CDC defines “fully vaccinated” as two weeks after receiving a second shot of a two-dose vaccine, or two weeks after the single-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine.
Below are some questions that you might have as we make this transition:
What if I cannot get vaccinated?
We appreciate that some community members may have medical conditions that will not allow vaccinations and that others may not be comfortable with vaccinations. For the time being, in alignment with the latest policies from the OHA, we will not be able to allow those community members to go maskless, change partners or not stay socially distanced. However, we would still love for you to come and join us for classes! You can attend solo or bring your own partner that you are comfortable staying with for the entire event.
What if I think I have natural immunity? (immunity from a previous infection)
While we may, in the future, be able to give consideration for people who might have developed natural immunity, the current OHA guidelines do not provide an exception for natural immunity and therefore is insufficient to meet our immunity requirement. You are still welcome to attend classes at our studio if you are able to wear a mask and stay socially distanced. You may attend solo or bring your own partner that you are comfortable staying with for the entire event.
What if I lost my vaccination card?
Your vaccination provider or your doctor’s office can obtain a replacement card. If you are unable to obtain a replacement card, students will have the option to provide a photo of your legible vaccination card as proof of vaccination.
Will Uptown still have a strict “stay home if you are sick” policy?
Yes! We will require that anyone, vaccinated or not, student or instructor, who feels sick to stay at home until they are well. You should still watch out for symptoms of COVID-19, especially if you’ve been around someone who is sick. If you have symptoms of COVID-19, you should get tested and stay home and away from others. We will also be continuing our COVID contact tracing questions for anyone who is not vaccinated and attending an event at our studio.
If I am vaccinated and attending a partnered group class or social, can I choose to stay with the partner I came with?
Absolutely. Rotation is optional if you are vaccinated, but not required! You are always welcome to bring your own partner and stay with them for the entire class or social.
The OHA recommends people who have a condition or are taking medications that weaken the immune system, should talk to their healthcare provider to discuss their activities. They may need to keep taking all precautions including masking and social distancing to prevent COVID-19.
I don’t think I can fully articulate in words here just how incredibly grateful I am to all of you. Your support of Uptown during this last year means everything to me. Thank you for sticking with us through this incredibly trying time. We have loved seeing how much delight and growth you have been able to expereince though dance this last year, even amid all the restrictions that made it look a bit different. We deeply appreciate your commitment and great attitudes to following all the safely rules we had and are so happy we got though this without any negative health impacts for our community. Kind of crazy to think things will be back to a somewhat “normal” feel here at the studio soon!
Please feel free send us an email with any questions or concerns you might have.
Here’s to a healthy and vibrant summer ahead!
